一、名词形状

形单义复

1．family 类名词作主语

强调整体时，谓语动词用单数；

强调个体时，谓语动词用复数。

如：My family is a happy family．

My family are so busy getting ready for Spring Festival．

类似的词还有：class，group，band，crew, committee，audience，public，club，staff, cabinet（内阁），team 等等

练习1. The flight service crew __________ largely women.

2．police 类名词作主语 总是用复数、

如：The police are looking for the lost child．

Cattle feed on grass．

这类名词还有：people，youth，personnel，cattle，vermin寄生虫、，poultry, clergy（牧师），militia（民兵） 等等

形复义单

1．学科：physics，mathematics，electronics，economics，news，statistics

如：Electronics is a piece of cake to him．

2．疾病：mumps 腮腺炎、，measles 麻疹、，diabetes（糖尿病），arthritis（关节炎）

3．书名、报刊名、国家名

如：《Great Expectations》  远大前程

《Times Weekly》    时代周刊

the United States

4．运动项目：

如：parallel bars  双杠

单复数同形

fish，deer, sheep，headquarters（总部），crossroads， Chinese，species，works，means，craft（手艺），aircraft，spacecraft等等

如：There is a sheep on the grass．

There are three sheep on the grass．

三、连词

1．And 成双名词词组作主语

如：needle and thread  针线 单数、

The husband and wife  夫妻 单数、

The husband and the wife  一个丈夫和一个妻子 复数、

The secretary and manager  书记兼经理 一人：单数、

The secretary and the manager  书记和经理 二人：复数、

2．就远原则

with，together with，along with，as well as，rather than，but，except，besides，no less than

如：The boss rather than his employees is to blame．

Nobody but Jack and Jane is here．
